This blog is meant to be a place for Sunnybrook Peri-Anesthesia Nurses (Pre-Admission Centre, Same Day Surgery, Post Anesthetic Are Unit and Surgical Short Stay Unit) to stay in communication with each other and to be up-to-date with concerns regarding the Peri-Anesthesia Department. The Purpose of S.P.A.N.C is •To re-implement a unit based council •to identify the unique role of the Peri-anesthesia nurse and to help staff from other areas understand what it is that we do •to create a collegial atmosphere for sharing our professional experiences within the subgroups of Peri-anesthesia •to facilitate open discussion and priority of issues relating to professional practice, education and research that impact on the quality of our work life and thereby affect positive outcomes for our patients and their families.

Journal Club-Artical #1


One thing I've realized since being in the role of Clinical Educator, is that at every interview that is held with potential new staff, one of the questions is "What have you done in the past two years to keep yourself current in your practice?" The correct responses include things such as, working on degree, attending conferences, workshops and in-services, and reading professional journals.

It got me thinking that one thing I'd like to promote on this blog is starting up a journal club. So, here's how it works: read the article and post a comment about what you agree/disagree with, your thoughts of how it affects your practice, did you like the article, is it relevant etc. If you come across an article that you'd like to share with the group, please forward it to me, and it will be posted.

Here is our first article. Let's see if we can get a discussion going!
